Lessons I Learned In My First 90 Days of Owning a Content Studio

🎶 “We Sip Champagne When We Thirstay!!” 🎶 This song lives in my head rent-free. If you recognize those lyrics, then you’re already vibing with me! If not, I got you—just ask Alexa to play “Juicy” by The Notorious B.I.G., and you’ll be rocking with me in no time. Now, let’s get into it because, as Biggie said, “I Gotta Story To Tell!” Yes, that’s another Biggie pun.

Owning a content studio for the past 90 days has been a wild ride. If we were sitting down over my favorite glass of bubbly, what would you want to know about the journey? I’d tell you that this journey hasn’t just been about the victories. There have been some serious dumpster fires along the way, too.

The truth is, with every challenge comes a lesson. So today, I’m pulling back the curtain on some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned—lessons I wish I knew when I first started this adventure. Hopefully, the lessons I’ve learned could help you on your journey, too. Whether you’re running a business, starting a new venture, or just figuring out your next steps, these lessons might resonate with you.

1. Collaboration Over Competition

Have you ever felt like success is all about what you can achieve? I thought that at first, too. But I quickly realized that success is more about community than individual achievement. Maybe you’ve seen how much stronger you are when you collaborate rather than compete.

The local business community taught me something invaluable: collaboration is far more powerful than competition. By connecting with others—whether it’s fellow creatives, entrepreneurs, or just like-minded people—you can achieve more together than you ever could alone. If you’ve been trying to go it alone, think about how collaboration could help you thrive.

2. Standing on Business

One of the hardest lessons I had to learn was the importance of standing by my decisions. Have you ever struggled with that? In business, tough choices are inevitable. I’ve learned to trust my gut and, most importantly, to stand firm in what I believe.
Think about a time when you had to make a tough decision. Did you stick with it, or did you waver? Being clear, honest, and direct—even when it’s uncomfortable—can lead to more authentic and rewarding outcomes. It’s all about staying true to your vision and values.

3. Learning to Pivot

You know the saying, “Want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.” Well, I’ve learned that the hard way! I’m a planner by nature, and maybe you are too. But plans don’t always go the way you expect them to—and that’s okay.
I’ve learned that sometimes the best outcomes come from those unexpected shifts. Being flexible has opened doors I never saw coming. When things don’t go as planned, I’ve learned to pivot and adapt. Sometimes, those unexpected shifts end up leading to the best outcomes. Being flexible has led to new paths and opportunities. The ability to pivot isn’t just about survival—it’s about growth, so don’t be afraid to make adjustments when needed.

4. Being Genuine

This perhaps may be the most important. Are you being true to yourself? When you’re trying to build something, it’s easy to get caught up in presenting a polished version of yourself. But being genuine—flaws and all—builds stronger relationships, and trust me when I say that people can spot an imposter from a mile away. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being real. And when you’re willing to learn, grow, and admit when you’re wrong, you’ll find that authenticity is what keeps things real.

Owning a content studio has been a wild ride—one filled with lessons I never saw coming. I hope sharing these with you sparks something in your own journey. From collaborating more, standing firm in your decisions, to embracing the unexpected and being unapologetically yourself, I hope these lessons resonate with you.
