From Hustle to Heart: How I Built Magnolia Content Studios

A few weeks ago, I took a rare pause (probably with a large glass of wine in hand!) to reflect on this wild, wonderful journey. From the hustle and grit my parents taught me growing up to finally bringing my long-time dream to life with Magnolia Content Studios, it’s been a ride worth every twist and turn. Let me take you behind the scenes—into my story, my why, and the incredible people who’ve cheered me on along the way.

How It All Started: The School of Hard Work

If there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s work hard (and yes, I wear that badge proudly). Growing up in a working-class household, my parents handed me life lessons that are still my playbook today. Chief among them? “No one’s going to save you—you have to save yourself.” Ouch, right? But boy, did it light a fire in me!

This mindset has been my secret weapon through every season of life—whether it was juggling motherhood with Eric by my side, tackling a corporate career, or stepping out into the great unknown of entrepreneurship. It hasn’t always been easy (and spoiler: sometimes it’s downright scary), but every step has been worth it.

The Dream That Wouldn’t Quit

Let me tell you something—dreams don’t expire. For years, I focused on raising my family. My world revolved around our daughters, and honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about those moments. But there was always this little nudge, this quiet voice saying, “There’s something more for you, Dana.”

When the girls got older, I eased back into the workforce, landing a fulfilling role as a Key Accounts Sales Rep for a leading apparel brand. But that nudge? It didn’t go away. And as my 50th birthday loomed closer, I had an epiphany: It was now or never. The fear of looking back with regret officially trumped the fear of trying and failing.

Enter Magnolia Content Studios, my heart in business form. It’s not just a workspace; it’s where creativity meets community, where dreams become reality, and where I get to witness incredible people doing what they love. Every time someone walks into the studio ready to create, I’m reminded: taking the leap was so worth it.

Three Rules I Live By

Here’s what kept me going through every curveball and crossroads:

  1. Keep Showing Up (a.k.a., Persistence): Whether it’s restarting a career, launching a business, or figuring out how to adult every day, persistence is key. Quitting might seem tempting, but trust me, sticking it out pays off.
  2. Stay Open (Adaptability is Magic): Going from the corporate grind to running my own show has been a crash course in flexibility. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow.
  3. Build Your Crew (Connection is Everything): Magnolia wouldn’t exist without the amazing clients, collaborators, and creatives who believe in what we’re building. Relationships matter—nurture them!

And if you’re starting out? Pro tip: Don’t go it alone. Surround yourself with people who hype you up, keep you grounded, and inspire you to dream bigger. Collaboration beats competition every time.

Grateful Doesn’t Even Begin to Cover It

Behind every great idea is a great partner, and mine is Eric. My husband, my co-dreamer, and my biggest cheerleader. He’s the one who gently (and sometimes not-so-gently) nudges me out of my comfort zone when I need it. His belief in me has been a cornerstone of this entire journey, and I wouldn’t be here without him.

Chasing Dreams and Taking Risks

Here’s the truth: Magnolia Content Studios isn’t just a business to me. It’s proof that it’s never too late to dream big, take risks, and rewrite your story.

Was it terrifying? 100%.
Was it worth it? Beyond words.

If you’ve got a dream nudging you, let this be your sign to go for it. The unknown might be scary, but trust me, the view from the other side is spectacular.

So here’s to the hustle, the leap of faith, and the magic that happens when you say yes to yourself. What are you saying yes to today?
