Let’s be real—selling can feel awkward. You know your offer is amazing, but the second you start talking about it, you suddenly feel like that guy from late-night infomercials screaming “BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!”
Not cute. Not effective.
But here’s the good news: selling doesn’t have to feel like a cringe-fest. In fact, if done right, it doesn’t even feel like selling at all.
The Secret? It’s Not About You.
Back in my corporate days, they dubbed me the Queen of Soft Sales. Not because I was the loudest or the pushiest, but because I mastered the art of selling without making it feel like selling.
Naturally, I’m a talker (I could chat all day if you let me).
But when it comes to sales, I follow the 80/20 rule:
✔ The customer should do 80% of the talking.
✔ I listen, ask the right questions, and only speak when I’m offering a solution.
Because here’s the truth: People don’t like being sold to, but they love feeling understood.
Want to Sell Without Feeling Like a Used Car Salesman? Try This:
1. Stop “Pitching” & Start Listening
If your first instinct when talking to a potential client is to launch into a full-blown sales pitch, pump the brakes. 🚨
Instead of leading with:
🚫 “You NEED this offer. Here’s why it’s perfect for you.”
Try:
✅ “What are you struggling with right now?”
Your audience will literally tell you what they need—all you have to do is listen.
2. Make It About Them (Not You)
Nobody opens Instagram thinking, “Wow, I hope I see a hard sales pitch today!”
Your content, emails, and offers should feel like an invitation—not an announcement.
🚫 Don’t:
• “I’m launching my new product! Buy now!”
• “I need three more clients this month!”
✅ Do:
• “Here’s how [your offer] helps you save time, make money, or stress less.”
• “Struggling with [problem]? This might be exactly what you need.”
Shift the focus from “me” to “you”, and suddenly, people lean in instead of tuning out.
3. Use Proof, Not Pressure
Nothing sells like results.
You can talk about how amazing your offer is all day long, but seeing someone else’s success story? That’s where the magic happens.
✅ Client wins – Share real testimonials, screenshots, or transformation stories.
✅ Behind-the-scenes – Show the process. People love a “how it started vs. how it’s going”moment.
✅ Social proof – A simple “I just booked my third client this week!” is way more powerful than a sales pitch.
Let your work (and happy clients) speak for itself.
4. Make It Stupid Easy to Say Yes
Ever landed on a website, wanted to buy something, and then spent 10 minutes just trying to figure out how to do it? Yeah. Annoying.
🚫 Don’t:
• Have a booking process that feels like an obstacle course.• Make people DM you for pricing (unless you’re luxury and that’s your thing).
✅ Do:
• Drop clear calls to action—“Click here to book,” “DM me for details,” “Sign up in two clicks.”
• Reduce the steps—If it’s too complicated, people will ghost.
Make saying yes so easy they barely have to think about it.
Selling Isn’t About Convincing—It’s About Connecting.
The best sales don’t feel like sales. They feel like conversations—the kind where you genuinely help someone solve a problem.
So next time you’re about to pitch, take a breath, ask a question, and let them talk. You might be surprised how easy it is when you stop selling… and start listening.
