Hey there,
Some days, I sound witty and conversational.
Some day,s I sound professional and polished.
Some days I honestly don’t know who tf I am.
And all of those versions are me. And business is better because of it.
I spent years thinking I needed to pick one brand voice and perform it flawlessly forever. You know, “consistency is key” and all that marketing gospel everyone parrots on LinkedIn.
But then I realized something that should’ve been obvious: I don’t talk the same way in every situation.
I don’t talk to my clients the same way I talk to my team. I don’t pitch a corporate partnership the same way I announce a new studio offering. And I definitely don’t write SOPs the way I write Instagram captions.
(If I did, my SOPs would be way more entertaining. And possibly less useful.)
Different situations call for different versions of me. And that’s not a bug – it’s a feature.
Strategic Dana plans 45 days of content in advance, builds systems, and color-codes her calendar. She shows up when clients need structure and a clear plan forward.
Direct Dana will tell you what’s working and what’s not without sugarcoating it. She shows up when clarity matters more than making everyone comfortable.
Creative Dana gets genuinely excited about a perfectly styled shoot or a killer Reel concept. She’s the one who makes the work actually fun instead of just functional.
All of them are real. All of them run Magnolia. All of them show up depending on what’s needed.
And here’s what I’ve learned: the clients who get the best results work with all the versions.
They need Strategic Dana to build the plan.
They need Direct Dana to navigate what’s not working.
They need Creative Dana to execute content that connects.
If I only showed up as one version all the time, I’d be limiting what I can offer.
And honestly? That would be boring as hell.
I’m going to keep showing up as:
Because that’s how real people work. And that’s definitely how real businesses work.
You’re not one-dimensional in your life. Why would your business be?
You don’t talk to your boss the same way you talk to your best friend. You don’t write a proposal the same way you write a text. You don’t show up to a client meeting the same way you show up to happy hour.
So why are we all pretending our “brand voice” has to be identical in every single piece of content we create?
Spoiler: we don’t.
Stop.
You’re a whole person running a business, not a character performing a role.
You’re allowed to be strategic and spontaneous.
Professional and real.
Polished and unfiltered.
Bring all your versions. Your business will be better for it.
Because people don’t connect with brands that sound like they were written by a committee trying not to offend anyone.
They connect with people. Real ones. Multi-dimensional ones. The ones who show up differently depending on what the moment needs.
So yeah, my brand voice has multiple personalities.
And I’m not apologizing for it.
Dana,
