P.P.S. before we get into it —
Watching Golden Tempo run in the Kentucky Derby reminded me of something I have been learning in real time.
The best outcomes don’t come from forcing the pace.
They come from knowing when to move. And when not to.
I’m learning that in business right now in a big way.
A new client reached out about a podcast launch — and I’m not going to lie, I was sold.
The setting? A beautiful home in the NC mountains. One of my favorite parts of this state.
BTS filming on Sunday. Three full episodes on Monday. All leading into a holiday launch.
Tight turnaround — but doable.
I was genuinely excited.
And I almost just said yes and got in the car.
But I didn’t.
I don’t ask clients what their budget is.
I quote my price. That’s the price.
If we need to adjust, we adjust the scope — not my value.
Most of the time, once people understand what they’re getting, they move forward. Because the value is clear. The investment makes sense. And we’re aligned before anything begins.
This time, we weren’t.
The questions went unanswered. The investment went uncommitted. No signed agreement. No deposit.
No drama.
No hard feelings.
No two-hour drive and overnight stay.
No Sunday away from my family.
No Monday filming three episodes for a client who hadn’t committed to the work.
Just a clean decision — supported by a system I built for exactly this kind of moment.
Not every opportunity is the right one. And I don’t try to make it fit anymore.
At the beginning of 2026, I chose a word: alignment.
And I meant it.
I’m in a new season — not just in my business, but in how I move through it.
The clients.
The energy.
The investment.
It all has to line up now.
Not because I’m trying to be selective for the sake of it — but because I’ve built something worth protecting. And I finally act like it.
If you missed my email from January about why I chose alignment as my word for 2026 — read it here. It’ll make this one hit even harder.
Not more content.
Not more clients.
Not more hustle.
Systems. Boundaries. Clarity.
Those are the things that protect your time, your energy, and the business you worked so hard to build — even when the opportunity looks really, really good.
Banner Elk will still be there.
The right clients will too.
And I’ll be ready when they are.
